How we measure
Every truck size on this site comes from the rental company's own public page, and every number carries its source and the date we checked it. Right now 102 of the 151 truck and van numbers are confirmed; the rest are marked "not yet confirmed" wherever they appear.
Where the truck sizes come from
We list 20 trucks, vans and trailers from U‑Haul, Penske, Budget, Enterprise. For each one we record the inside length, width and height, the door opening, the deck height and, where the brand gives them, the over-cab space, the wheel wells, the volume and the maximum load. We keep the text exactly as the brand writes it ("7'8"", "up to 16 ft.") and convert it to millimetres with a script, so no number is retyped by hand.
Each number has one of these labels:
- From the brand's own page (60 numbers): we read it on the company's page.
- Confirmed by other sources (42): the brand's figure, and at least two independent, current sources give the same number.
- Not yet confirmed (49): seen in the brand's text or on another site, but not yet checked on the brand's page itself.
When good sources disagree about a size, we use the smallest credible value, so the planner never tells you something fits when it might not. For example, U‑Haul calls one truck its 29', but the floor is about 26'; the rest is the space over the cab, which we count separately. Some vans publish only the width between the wheel wells, so we treat the whole floor as that wide.
Where the furniture sizes come from
The 44 household items use sizes from makers and big retailers: standard mattress sizes, a best-selling sofa, common refrigerators, washers and dressers. Each item page says which model and links to it. Your own furniture may be bigger or smaller, so the planner lets you add any item by its length, width and height.
How the packing works
The planner packs your list in 3D the way movers load a truck: big and heavy things first, at the cab end; things that can't carry weight (mattresses, TVs in their boxes) are never stacked on; mattresses and sofas may stand on their edge or end; a fridge stays upright. Where the brand publishes the door size, every item has to fit through that opening, tilted if its rules allow. Thin items such as a king mattress may lean against the wall when they are too wide to stand straight. Light boxes go in the over-cab space. It tries several loading orders and keeps the one that fits the most.
Its limits
- Our packing fills about 70–80% of a full truck. A careful professional load fits more, so when a smaller truck "came close", it may work.
- Everything is packed as a box. Real furniture has gaps (under a table, between chair legs) that movers fill, and we don't.
- Rental fleets mix model years, and sizes can differ by a few inches from truck to truck.
- We don't check weight limits per axle or how a load is tied down. Follow the rental company's loading rules.
How we keep it current
We check the brands' pages again every three months and note the date on every page. If a size looks wrong to you, please tell us which truck and what you measured; we check every report.
